7.28GB x264 MKV. 10500kbps h264 1080p video. MP3 2ch audio. 1hr 38 mins.

Video source:
17000kbps h264 1080i TVB(Hong Kong) live broadcast capture (no ads or cuts).

Audio source:
BBC live broadcast in English.

Video content:
The FULL opening ceremony from the very start to the beginning of the athletes parade (which is not included), then restarts after the athletes parade and the boring speeches are finished through to the lighting of the torch and the final uber fireworks display. The TVB presenters appear on screen for 15-20 seconds near the start and for 5 seconds towards the end with no other interruptions at all so this is a VERY clean presentation of the show, unlike some of the other sources we've seen recently!
Video quality, as you would expect from such a super quality source and re-encoded/deinterlaced at such a high bitrate, is superb and the best out there that will fit on a DVD ...

Audio content:
BBC's live commentary which I have synched to the TVB video. Some have criticised the BBC's work here (myself included) but this remains the best commentary in English as the (otherwise great) Aussie commentary was cut with ads unfortunately ...

The original source was deinterlaced/re-encoded using MeGui and put together using MKVToolnix. The x264 quality profile used in MeGui was "x264:HQ-Slowest" to ensure that as much of the original source quality was kept intact - this took a loooong time to encode on a quad-core Xeon :)

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the devs of the above tools for such great work. It's rare to find tools in this field that A/ work and B/ are useable by 'normal' people like me :)

I have purposely left half a gig or so below DVD9/8GB size so that if another quality commentary/soundtrack comes along (I know that the "stadium sounds only" soundtrack is out there for example but I don't have it unfortunately) then it can be very easily added to the MKV using MKVToolnix.

On that point - I believe that the BBC are going to run the whole live ceremony again on 22/08/08 - it would be cool if someone can cap that commentary in 5.1 and make it available. Perhaps we can lose the voices from a 5.1 cap and be left with just the stadium sounds??

Finally, I'll be seeding this VERY quickly but for a short time only (hours) so please carry on seeding well after I'm done.
